FT- Enterprise Inns ( has 2,400 tennant pubs) yesterday announced the acquisition of 183 houses from Whitbread for £115m cash. Its made up of the bulk of the retail estate acquired by WTB when it bought Swallow (Sunderland based Hotel grp) in Nov. Comprises 145 managed pubs & 38 tennancies, mainly in Yorks., and Lancs. |

Daily Mail: WTB beat rival BASS in the race to pull out of brewing, through a £400m deal with Belgium's Interbrew. The cash will fund expansion of activities including Marriott Hotels, Travel Inns, Brewers Fayre pubs and David Lloyd fitness clubs. The shares rose 11p to 578p. Interbrew owns the Stella Artois and Labatt's brands. |

CH4 Teletext: Whitbread & Punch in joint venture. At least 50 new Travel Inns will be added to the budget chain under a new jv company to be set up. Punch Travel Inn will invest >£80m to develope the new 40 to 60 edroom hotels next to punch pubs. WTB which recently sold its brewing business to Interbrew for £400m will manage the Inns, and the new company will have a board of 6. |
